Jefferson State adding men's and women's golf in 2016-17

Jefferson State Community College will add a men and women's golf program for the 2016-17 academic year. The teams will begin this fall and will compete in the Alabama Community College Conference and National Junior College Athletic Association.

"We are very pleased to bring athletics back to Jefferson State," said Jefferson State Dean of Enrollment Dr. Mike Hobbs. "The Birmingham area is a fantastic location for golf and we look forward to all the benefits both teams will bring to our community and our college."

There will be 8 scholarships available for the men's team and 8 scholarships for the women's team. Scholarships will cover tuition and fees.

Tryouts for the teams will be held in July. To be eligible for tryouts, please complete the online form at www.jeffersonstate.edu/golfteam. Those who wish to be eligible for the team need to be admissible to Jefferson State and comply with NJCAA eligibility requriements.

"Jefferson State is dedicated to providing opportunities and we believe the addition of these teams will do just that," said Hobbs. "It also gives our college and community something else to be excited about."
