BOAZ, ALABAMA – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced that 34 Snead State Community College student-athletes are recipients of NJCAA Academic Awards.
The Snead State tennis team finished fourth in the nation academically among the National Junior College Athletic Association's tennis teams. The team finished with a 3.69 grade point average and took top honors for tennis teams in the Alabama Community College Conference.
Four other Snead State teams earned spots amongst the NJCAA's top academic squads in their respective sports – volleyball (3.53), men's golf (3.19), softball (3.37) and baseball (3.08).
A 4.0 GPA earns NJCAA First Team All-Academic while a 3.80-3.99 will earn NJCAA Second Team All-Academic. NJCAA Third Team All-Academic is award to student-athletes with a GPA of 3.60-3.79.
Of the 34 Parsons earning NJCAA All-Academic honors, 13 were named to the First Team for their 4.0 GPA.
NJCAA First Team All-Academic Recipients: Baseball- Jacob Rich (Hoover); Women's Basketball- Catlin Carter (Bessemer); Men's Basketball- Payton Youngblood (Birmingham); Softball- Kayleigh Powell (Albertville), Mary Patton (Collinsville), Taiya Ponder (Cullman), Torie Garner (Florence); Tennis- Bailey Boman (Sardis), Jessica Griffith (Cherokee County), Meagan Moore (Albertville), Rebekah Hill (Cherokee County); Volleyball- Ginny Hester (Boaz), Jordyn Garmon (Guntersville).
Second Team honors goes to student-athletes who earned a 3.80-3.99 GPA.
NJCAA Second Team All-Academic Recipients: Softball- Bailey White (Sardis); Volleyball- Allie Jett (Fort Payne), Lily Hawkins (Crossville).
To receive Third Team All-Academic, student-athletes must have a 3.60-3.79 GPA.
NJCAA Third Team All-Academic Recipients: Baseball- Amos Willingham (Summerville, GA), Austin Goode (Wellington), Jacob Bobo (Attalla), John Hartsfield (Birmingham), John Strickland (Boaz), Riley Shaw (Alexandria); Women's Basketball- Tamia Willingham-King (Decatur); Men's Basketball- Justin Murphy (Geraldine); Softball- Ashlyn Benefield (Henegar), Josie McDonald (Good Hope), Kayla Reid (Oneonta), Sheyanne Clements (Ohatchee), Victoria Patterson (Athens); Tennis- Erika Roman (Hartselle); Volleyball- Gabrielle Bili (Hartselle), Mackenzie Buttram (Geraldine), Mary Kathryn Hunt (Boaz); Men's Golf- Chase Thompson (Clanton).
