Central Alabama wins NJCAA National Championship

Head coach Dave Jennings purchased Harry Potter squeeze toys after the second round as good luck for the Central Alabama men's golf team.

It worked as the Trojans hoisted the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament trophy Friday evening at Duran Golf Club in Viera, FL. Central Alabama shot a final round 8-under 280 as a team which was the best round of the day for the second straight day.

"We are all Christian guys of course and we know he is with us all the time but I had to go find a good luck charm and went to Wal-Mart and got these Harry Potter squeeze toys and told guys to grab Harry every time you hit a good or bad shot," Jennings said. "They played amazing golf. For the guys to shoot these kinds of scores is just outstanding. They picked a great time to peak."

The championship is the seventh overall for Central Alabama and second under Jennings who was named the Coach of the Year.

"This is really special, it's my second one here and the program's seventh. Our town of Alexander City needed something like this. For years and years this has been a really good golf program and I am just honored to be a part of it," Jennings said. It is extra special."

Central Alabama's Jack Poole was one stroke behind Bruce and placed second with teammate Owen Burt placing third at 10-under.
