Gadsden State tennis team receives academic honors from ITA

Gadsden, Ala. – Members of the Gadsden State Community College Cardinal Tennis Team have earned academic honors from the International Tennis Association. The team has been named an ITA All-Academic Team and three players – Kevin Triplett, Matt Wade and Kyle Cavender – have been named ITA Scholar Athletes.

"We are so proud of our team – not only for their athletic achievements but for their academic excellence as well," said Buster Stewart, Gadsden State's tennis coach. "It's not an easy task to juggle our tennis practices and matches with the demands of the classroom but our players have proven that they can do both – and do it well."

To be named an All-Academic Team, the program has to have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2 or above. Gadsden State's team has a grade point average of 3.27. Joining Triplett, Wade and Cavender on the Cardinal tennis team are Jacob McAllister, Paul Taylor, Chris Millsap and Jered Scarbrough.

To earn ITA Scholar Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least a 3.5 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
