Calhoun Lady Warhawks honor Kayleigh McClendon

The Calhoun Lady Warhawks softball team honored Kayleigh McClendon in their final Fall Season game on Friday, October 14th against Martin Methodist College. Kayleigh is a seven year old from Hartselle, AL who was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in May. Kayleigh loves softball and her favorite number is 14 because her older sister, Grace, wears it.

The Lady Warhawks had a fun day with Kayleigh and her family, complete with painted bases and field. A large sign was displayed on the center field fence. All the players painted their faces and wore purple ribbons and #14 on their helmets in support of her journey for "healing this side of heaven!" Both teams participated in a balloon release and presented her with mementos of her special day as a Lady Warhawk!!

Kayleigh, dressed in the Lady Warhawks uniform, threw out the first pitch to her cousin and favorite Calhoun Baseball player, Camp Metcalf. Demarie Corley, Lady Warhawk #14 was honored to push Kayleigh around the bases as other infielders had the bases prepared for her to touch.
