Snead State Names New Volleyball Coach

BOAZ, AL – Snead State Community College has announced Angie Sanders will serve as its next volleyball coach.

Coach Sanders has coached volleyball at Gadsden State Community College for the past 11 years. She has a 319-137 collegiate record. Her teams have earned numerous academic awards and earned four trips to the national tournament.

"We are very excited to welcome Coach Sanders to our volleyball program," said Athletic Director Mark Richard. "Her coaching credentials are unquestionable. She has a philosophy of high academic standards, community involvement and developing young student-athletes into mature adults."

Sanders is a Gadsden State and University of North Alabama softball alumna. She served as a high school and college volleyball official for eight years prior to coaching.

She is a 1991graduate of Southside High School. She has been teaching at Southside High School for 20 years.

"I am happy and excited about being the new head coach of the Snead State volleyball team," said Sanders. "Coach Wilson has built an impressive program, and I look forward to helping build Snead volleyball into a program where each of the local high school players wants to come start their collegiate volleyball and academic careers."

Sanders succeeds Coach Dee Ayres Wilson, who resigned in June after accepting a new position in Montgomery. Under Wilson's leadership for the past four seasons, the Lady Parsons went 69-79 overall and 32-26 in conference play.

"It has been an amazing four years at Snead State," said Coach Wilson. "I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to coach such amazing young women."

"Coach Wilson has been a great asset to us during her time here," said Richard. "In the four years she has been here, she has built teams that have been extremely competitive on the court and that have thrived in the classroom. She has helped develop tremendous young ladies. She has built a top-rate program, and we sincerely thank her for this."

Coach Meagan Johnson will remain as the Lady Parsons' assistant coach.
