Barry is currently the President / Executive Director of the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association, a position he's held since 2000. This position was a volunteer/stipend position from 2000 - 2009 until success of the association allowed him to make the position full-time from 2009 until now. Barry's last coaching stint was at Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama from 2006 - 2009 where he was the Head Baseball Coach and Health and Physical Education Instructor.

Barry has coached a total of 17 years: two on the high school level, nine on the community college level, and six on the four-year college level. He began his coaching career at Troy University in 1990 as a graduate assistant, where he earned his masters degree in health and physical education and his K-12 teacher certification. During the summers of 1994 and 1995, he managed the Hornell Dodgers of the NCAA-Sanctioned Upstate New York Collegiate Summer league. In 1998 and 1999, Barry traveled to England, Germany, Brazil and Nicaragua as an Envoy Coach with Major League Baseball International and has also traveled to the Dominican Republic on several occasions to conduct baseball clinics.

Barry has served as an umpire on the high school, community college, and four-year collegiate level for several years, most recently in 2004. He attended the Harry Wendelstedt Professional Umpire School in January of 2000 and the Music City Collegiate Umpire Camp in Nashville in the fall of 2003. In 2002, Barry had the rare distinction of umpiring a spring game at Mississippi State and then working their baseball camp that summer as a coach.

Barry has twice been a featured speaker at the American Baseball Coaches Association National Convention-- 2007 in Orlando and 2013 in Chicago. He also had the privilege of speaking at the National High School Baseball Coaches Association Convention in Nashville in 2010 and was the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association's 2010 Distinguished Service Award Recipient.

His love of the Alabama Community College system of athletics began when he walked- on to play baseball at Chattahoochee Valley Community College (CVCC) in the fall of 1983. He red-shirted his first year in order the get physically stronger, while practicing with the team every day and traveling with the team to coaching first base during the spring. It's at this time his love of coaching developed. Barry was voted team captain by his teammates his third year at CVCC, while the Pirates won the 1986 ACCC State Championship. The pinnacle of his playing career was when Barry was voted all-state tournament designated hitter at the 1986 state tournament.

Of all the years Barry has played, coached, and umpired on various levels, he admits that he's enjoyed his time spent on the two-year college level the most. As Executive Director of the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association, Barry has greatly enjoyed his time serving the community college players and coaches by hosting the Community College Fall Classic from 2005 - 2017, in which the all or the majority of the community colleges participate in. This event allows the players great exposure to many four-year college coaches and professional scouts throughout the southeast. He has also enjoyed and been honored to organize, promote, sponsor, and run the community college fall sophomore workouts since the mid-2000's. This event provides all north and south community college sophomores an invitation to attend one-day workouts, often in front on 30 - 40 four-year college coaches and professional scouts.
