Wood to join ACCC as Communications Intern

JP Wood will be the newest addition to the team here at the ACCC, jumping on board as the new communications intern.

JP graduated from Dothan High School in 2018, and began his freshman year at Jacksonville State later that year, where he majored in Communications with a focus in Digital Journalism.

While at Jacksonville State, JP spent time as the primary staff writer for sports, taking up primarily volleyball and baseball, with occasionally stories for men's basketball and football. His story for Jacksonville State baseball's walk off extra inning grand slam over in-state rival Troy won The Chanticleer's award for best sports story.

After some reevaluating, JP decided to move back to Dothan where he will attend Wallace Community College.  He hopes to start working his way towards Auburn University, and a position with The Plainsmen.

In addition to his interests in reporting, JP also plans to pursue opportunities in the fields of social media and public relations, as well as play-by-play broadcast commentary.

Industry icons like Chip Caray and Rod Bramblett, who JP has grown up listening to, inspired his draw to play-by-play commentary.

JP was drawn to the sports media industry while watching College Gameday one day in his sophomore year. The crew was in Blacksburg, Virginia for Ohio State at Virginia Tech. His dad mentioned how great a job it must be to travel around to all these great College football atmospheres, and then it just clicked in JP's brain. He realized that is exactly what he wanted to do.

In his free time, JP likes to do creative writing and play NCAA 14. He recently began collecting baseball cards, and has been to a multitude of rock concerts over the past two years, where he's seen bands like Foo Fighters, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, The Struts, and Greta Van Fleet.

Personally, JP is a big fan of the Atlanta Braves, Auburn Tigers, and New England Patriots.

In the long-term, JP would hope to fulfill one of these many possible positions with the Atlanta Braves or Auburn athletics as the endgame of his career. JP believes this internship will provide him with the experience he needs to begin climbing the ladder to his ultimate goal.

I look forward to working with JP, as he will bring an enthusiasm to the postion," stated Commissioner Dean Myrick.  "Teryn and JP are two great interns who will add alot to the Conference."
