The Alabama Community College Conference (Conference) Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC) serves as the official representation for student-athletes to the Conference and its institutional leaders in matters related to Conference and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules, regulations, and policies that directly affect the student-athlete experience on an institutional, conference, and national level.
The Conference SALC is a committee made up of two student-athletes from each Conference member and represents their institution at the Conference level. The Conference SALC meets once a month to provide insight on the student-athlete experience to Conference officials. These meetings provide the Conference SALC with an opportunity to engage with other Conference schools by sharing ideas, goals, and best practices. These meetings also provide the student-athletes an active role in the governance process on a conference and national level.
Each member institution will also establish a campus SALC. Although the purpose of the SALC may vary among the member institutions, the following five points reflect the primary purpose of the SALC at the Conference level:
• Promote student-athletes' voices within member institutions, the Conference, and the NJCAA;
• Solicit student-athlete response to proposed NJCAA and Conference legislation;
• Suggest potential NJCAA and Conference legislation;
• Organize community service efforts; and
• Create a vehicle for student-athletes representation on campus-wide, conference-wide, and national committees.
Along with offering valuable input on NJCAA and Conference issues, each campus SALC works diligently to give back to their local communities by participating in at least one community service project each semester.
"This is an amazing group of student-athletes," stated Commissioner Dean Myrick. "With a 3.79 overall GPA, they epitomize the term student-athlete. They will represent their respective institutions, programs, and Conference to the highest degree. Working with them will be a great experience."
The ACCC is pleased to announce the members of the 2020-21 SALC.
