Snead State Volleyball Advances to  NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District A/B Tournament

HANCEVILLE – The Snead State Community College Volleyball Team earned its best finish as runner-up in the recent Alabama Community College Conference Volleyball Tournament held Oct. 29-31 at Wallace-State Community College Tom Drake Coliseum. 

The Parsons will be seeded No. 2 in the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District A/B Tournament on Nov. 5-6.

Wallace State won the double elimination tournament, sweeping the Parsons 25-15, 25-11 and 25-15 in the championship match. 

In the final match, freshman Stephanie Sharp with 23 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore Macey Butler also had 10 digs. 

Snead, which was seeded third, opened the tournament sweeping Gadsden State 25-23, 25-21 and 25-15. Sharpe had 29 assists, sophomore Kaitlyn Woodall 12 digs and sophomore Katy Schroeder 14 kills.

The win over Gadsden advanced Snead to a matchup with second seeded Coastal Alabama-South. Coastal beat Snead 3-1. Snead won the first set 25-22 but Coastal won the next three, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-16.

Against Coastal, Sharpe had 35 assists, Woodall 27 digs and Shroeder 15 kills. 

The loss to Coastal dropped Snead to the losers bracket where they beat Coastal Alabama-East 3-1 before beating Bishop State 3-2. Snead won the first two sets 25-14 and 25-19 before Bishop won the next two sets 25-22 and 25-21. Snead won the deciding fifth set 15-10. 

Against Bishop, Sharpe had 35 assists, Woodall 28 digs, Shroeder 13 kills and 18 digs and Butler 11 digs.

In the finals of the losers bracket, Snead got revenge on Coastal Alabama-South, rallying after losing the first two sets to beat the Sunchiefs 3-2. Coastal won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-23. Snead won the last three sets 25-20, 25-23 and 15-11.

Sharpe totaled 47 assists and 13 digs. Shroeder had 11 kills and 18 digs. Woodall had 36 digs while Butler and freshman Jordan Beason each had 15 digs. Freshman Kayla Broom added 15 kills and freshman Grayson Evans had 12.

Broom, Woodall and Shroeder were each named to the all-tournament team.

The top three teams - Wallace State, Snead State and Coastal Alabama-South all advance to the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District Volleyball Tournament Friday and Saturday at Wallace State in Hanceville. 

As the second seed in the double elimination tournament, Snead State will play Monroe College (NY) at 3:00 Friday. 

The top two from the Gulf Atlantic Tournament advance to the NJCAA National Tournament Nov. 18-20 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
