Brock Moss Named Coastal Alabama Warhawks Head Baseball Coach

When he was a senior at Sterling College, Brock Moss played in the outfield as well as taking his rotations on the mound, but he had to make a tough choice, be the baseball team's fifth outfielder, or focus on becoming the best pitcher he could. He chose the latter, and that resolve and focus served him well.

Those are still key aspects of his character, which led to Moss being offered the Warhawk Head Baseball Coaching position, which he recently accepted. He takes over for legendary Brewton coach Keith Griffin, who served as interim head coach following the death of Head Coach Darrell Blevins in August of 2020.

Blevins and Griffin — who led the Warhawks to hundreds of victories and a NJCAA Division II national championship — were beloved members of Coastal Alabama Community College and the Brewton community, and Moss said he's honored to follow in their footsteps in what is his first stint as a head coach.

"Becoming Head Coach is one of the main goals of my coaching career, and I'm so glad to check that box off," he said. "But it doesn't mean I've made it.

"There's a lot more work to do, and I'm looking forward to the challenges."

In the last five years Moss has coached at Georgia Highlands College and Texas A&M International University. In addition to being a prized pitching coach, he is considered an excellent head recruiter. At GHC, the Chargers averaged 34 wins per season with Moss on staff, including three years with a national ranking and two trips to the NJCAA tournament.

His players have garnered numerous awards and set incredible records in wins, saves, innings pitched, complete games, shutouts and more. And the young men he coaches not only excel on the field, but in the classroom, as well. Many have earned NJCAA Academic All-American status and been on three NJCAA Academic Team of the Year awards.

"You must be able to build a good team culture, which includes good relationships with the players," Moss said. "They not only have to trust you on the field, but off it, as well.

"So they know that, 24/7, you have their best interests at heart during your time with that athlete."

Campus Director Dennis Fuqua said he's excited to have Moss leading the Warhawks on the field, especially considering what the team has been through since last season.

"I am looking forward to coach getting here and settled in," Fuqua said. "He seems to be the perfect fit for the Warhawk program and I have high expectations for what we can accomplish in Brewton."

After arriving in Brewton with his wife, Breanna, and their young daughter, he met with his players and immediately got to work recruiting players to the Warhawk team, several of whom have already transferred mid-year from other schools.
